Found out about a father’s day hike that my daughter’s Venture Crew organized. It was going up Peacock Flats. Wendi has run it a few times and warned me that I should train for it as it is long and steep. It was also got and rocky.

So I told her, let’s go on it then. She thought I should train easier first. But my thought was familiarity is a good part of training too. So the the two weeks prior, we went twice.

First time, I did not pace myself well, especially coming down. I was hurting. Especially my knees. My left knee in particular.

Second time, I paced myself much better and did not hurt all over. But my left knee was still sore.

Then in Dallas, a couple of days prior to the hike, I tweaked my left knee and it was very sore and a little swollen.

But, gotta power on. So hike day on Sunday. Was thankful for every bit of shade I encountered. We saw a bunch of folks bring dogs. Poor dogs. That trail is too hot and maybe too rocky for dogs. WE left Nori at home each time.

My favorite picture is this one.

Wendi her fun guy (fungi... get it?)

And a few scenic shots.

We had five kids, four dads and a super mom. The kids are all athletes. It was funny. The two oldest boys set a fast pace. Another boy said, "Why are they going so fast. I’m going to go at my own pace." Zhen said, "They are going so slow." And she blazed ahead. 🙄 I was happy to be the caboose.

Well, we made it. Left knee is pretty stiff and a little sore. Hope it does not interfere with tai chi tomorrow.
