Member of Windward YMCA Tai Chi
Michael Fahey has taught pro tennis in Rapid City, South Dakota, built concrete forms, and worked in carpentry. Despite the tiring work, he honored his musical soul by carving out time to write and play music over the years. He originally came to Hawaii to write a musical score for a Hawaiian sovereignty documentary project and decided to stay.
After retiring from construction, Michael devoted himself full-time to his family and his music. He plays African Fusion and Americana, which combines American rock and roll with storytelling. Hawaii Public radio once categorized his style as Latin Blues. He loves to perform live and plays a djembe drum with Sewa Fare’, an African drum and dance group.
So why tai chi? One day he saw the Windward YMCA tai chi class and thought it looked fun. What a great reason!
Three of his four kids live in Hawaii, and the youngest is only 10-years-old. His oldest daughter, of whom he is quite proud, is an author and entrepreneur. Two of her companies are Spiritual Guru Box, which sends customers a monthly box of curated items, and Limitless Publishing, which publishes print and e-books.

Kelvin’s note: very cool. Might have to take a closer look at daughter’s companies.
